  • 5 years explores the 21st century identity crisis and the role of the portrait in a society in which it holds a prestigious position. People no longer know how to relate to themselves in the absence of their reflections. These images are precisely what continuously remind them of time's modifying effects on their bodies.

The 5 selected images all share one common link: they were taken once a year, every year, between 2006 and 2011. It was during this period of time that I attended undergraduate school as a Fine Arts major. ID card pictures, symbol of universal identification, display –in chronological sequence- the changes that have taken place over the years; "changes" not only the in the aesthetic sense but in an emotional and physiological way too. Also, the use of a 1:1 scale causes the photos to lose their original, intended purpose.

It's about recording a process of introspection and self-knowledge that combines each image of the piece to create the five phases of grief: denial and isolation, anger, bargaining, depression, and acceptance.
